Some small tidbits like buying save slots for example annoyed people. Thats until you notice that shared resources between all bases on every character is combined. So having more characters means you can use 1 base just to generate food, water, and medical supplies, and the facilities for weapons and gear, while using another purely for base defense. Lets also not forget that in TPP you only get 1 save slot as well. So its not a new thing.

But good grief, charging for save slots? Charging real money for a second save slot? That's just shameless. I've never been de facto anti-Metal Gear Survive, because I've always felt the Hideo Kojima controversy was a little more complicated than it's been reported. I also think the Metal Gear series can survive just fine without Kojima. But Konami sure doesn't make it easy.

The opening hours of gameplay, though, are pretty boring. Tutorials are rarely fun, and this one stretches on longer than most as it has you running several near-identical fetch quests and teaches you how to manage your hunger and thirst meters, scavenge for resources to build entry-level gear, and harvest zombies for Kubon energy, the main in-game currency used for everything from crafting to leveling up.
While things take a while to pick up, I fell into a pretty comfortable base-building routine once they did. After returning from a mission, I\u2019d repair my gear at my workbench, restock on ammo, cook whatever food I\u2019d been able to scavenge for, boil some clean water for drinking, and check my farms and water purifiers for output. Each task is done at a different station that you can drag and drop to a location of your choosing, effectively letting you create your own little survival camp. My current base has small huts and tents set up near the campfire where I can sleep and cook. Nearby are my food and medicine repositories for keeping my crew healthy, and opposite my farms, several advanced gear, weapon, and gadget workshops for crafting new equipment.

All these systems and items really bring you to the focus of the game: the gear grind. Besides the campaign, the big underlying objective of Metal Gear Survive is to grind for loot. The better weapons, armor, and gadgets you have, the better you can defend against Wanderers. The better you can protect against Wanderers, the better loot you can get, and the cycle continues. The campaign itself lasts around 25-30 hours, and afterward, you can continue to do random side missions given to you by your teammates and finish exploring Dite. There are also some post-campaign boss monsters that are quite challenging, and a few new things you can do in Base Camp, including defending it against hordes of Wanderers in a wormhole digger scenario.
The single-player campaign preview begins at the base camp, which serves as your center of operations and (mostly) safe haven. The base camp is also where you learn about the game's crafting and survival mechanics. There are various workbenches for constructing weapons, gear, and structures, all of which you will need to master to defend yourself and the other survivors from Wanderers, as well as ensure your day-to-day survival.
