What is Internet Archive? It's one of those most famous digital online library, and it contains 4.6 million eBooks(from public domain) we can access and download for free. Today I will introduce how to download Internet Archive books to ePub or PDF format for offline reading or non-profit sharing.
Internet Archive allows us to borrwn books for free, but only for a limited time, 1-hour or a longer 14-day. The good news is that we can download one book from archive org if the book offers a 14-day loan.
You will also notice that there are some books are listed "Read", and after you click on "Read" button, you will find that there are multiple download options for us. For example, ePub, PDF, Kindle, torrent, TXT, Scribe scanndate zip, etc..
Different from those borrowed books, these types of books provided for us can be viewed online without page limits. What's more, the downloaded file we get will be DRM free, no need to use the ADE to authorize our files and devices.
PDF files contain high quality images of pages, while ePub files are smaller in size, but may contain errors. Actually, I personally prefer the PDF format. However, if you want, you can choose both, and compare the quality or reading experience.
You are not allowed to borrow kindle format books from Internet Archive, it means you could not download kindle files from here. But you can search books from Open Library "Read" category and try to find the kindle format one(if provided).
A: If you are able to open the borrowed books via the Adobe Digital Editions, you can try some tools, for example, Calibre or Epubor Ultimate, to help you get rid of the limits, and then you can backup them to your local drive.
DON'T share it with the public, for example, don't upload to the Internet Archive or other digital libraries again. You can download and backup them for offline reading and other personal use. And I can't promise that this tool 100% works. Say more, it doesn't support the decrypting if you download files via LCP. Try it first.
A: I find a Chrome extension named Internet Archive Downloader, you can also get a trial. It downloads books from
archive.org as PDF format. After you borrow the book (for either 1 hour or 14-days), you will see two new buttons: "Quality" and "Download". They appear under the book reading window, click on the "Download" button please.

Archive.org makes available for download an extremely largecollection of books. However, many of them cannot be downloaded, butonly loaned for a short period of time, typically a single hour. This isannoying, because loans must be renewed all the time and because youneed a reasonably fast internet access to consult loaned books. Theonline book viewer is also not nearly as convenient, fast and featurefulas an offline PDF reader. Fortunately, it is still possible to downloadbooks that theoretically can only be loaned, with a few tools and a bitof Python code. I propose to show how to do this.
A cache does not grow unbounded, such that entries might be evictedfrom it when hitting a size limit. You might thus need to enlarge theFirefox cache capacity to make it large enough to store the pages of afull book, plus some extra space. First enter about:config in the URLbar, and search for the option browser.cache.disk.capacity. This is themaximum capacity of the cache, expressed in KB. The default value on mycomputer is 256,000, thus 256 MB, which is plenty enough for storing allpages of a book.
Many tools are available for simulating keyboard input, likeAutoHotkey on Windows. On Linux, we can use the kernel uinput interface, which makes it possible to create virtual input devices. It can be usedwith system calls directly, but there is a convenient Python wrapperthat makes the process somewhat easier. You can install it with:
Then switch to the Firefox window and click on the current page tomake it get the focus. If everything works well, you should see pagesturn automatically. It might take a while to finish, depending on thelength of the book, so you better do something else in the meantime. Also note that you might have to loan the book again and restart thepage turning process if one hour is not enough to turn all thepages.
To operate correctly, the tesseract OCR library needs to accessmodels trained on the specific language or script it will be asked torecognize. You can download OCR models for several languages from the tessdatarepository. Model files should be copied to the tesseract datadirectory, which is typically /usr/share/tessdata.
