Hi all,

Does anyone have any recommendations on specific brands of security cameras or other means to deter people from stealing packages? We've had two packages stolen recently and the existing camera we use in our condo building isn't good enough to give the police something they can work with. We also have a little storage bench next to our door we've asked UPS/FedEx/USPS to put packages into but they've yet to comply.

Thanks,

Rick

We had to learn the hard way to send packages to work addresses. SO many packages stolen from our doorstep. I'd love to hear about a good camera recommendation, too! Sorry to hear you're dealing with this.

I have a pretty good camera suggestion.

If you're looking for a DIY type solution (something you set up and monitor yourself as opposed to hiring a security company) I've really enjoyed having my Logitech Alert camera in the back of my house. You can configure it to record all motion or only motion on a specified "zone" of the frame. Its free to monitor the live feed on the internet as well as from their smartphone apps, pretty cool. Also records HD quality video (960x720) which is better than most of the other cameras I researched. My setup sends me an alert to my phone every time a certain type of action is detected. They have an outdoor and indoor model (I think some people place the indoor model in the house facing out in cases where you want to see facial details of someone that comes up to your door.)

Good luck, I'd happy to provide more details to anyone interested!

That is a great idea! For amazon.com packages, they have a system where they deliver stuff to 'lockers' that are placed all over (inside various 7-elevens, etc). That's helpful, too.

I’ve had at least two packages stolen from my porch but it’s not appropriate to have items delivered to my work address. What I’ve started doing is contacting the delivery company (usually UPS or FedEx) and asked them to hold the packages for my pick up. FedEx has a new service that allows you to identify the store you want the package delivered to. For UPS you have to go their shipping warehouse on Ardwick/Ardmore road.
