Life Scatch of SHRI JALARAM BAPA in Short:

He was known for his SADAVRATA philosophy which involves taking a vow resolving to feed hungry people of the society free of cost to everyone (irrespective of Caste & Religion). Shri Jalaram Temple located in the city of VIRPUR in Saurashtra-Gujarat where his SADAVRATA activities is still practiced today.

SHRI JALARAM BAPA (1799 TO 1881 A.D) was born in the village Virpur, Gujarat. His mother, Rajbai was very fond of serving sadhus and saints. No sadhu and saint could go from Virpur without receiving the hospitality of Rajbai. Shree Jalaram Bapa's father's name was Pradhan Thakkar, who was engaged in business.

Shri Jalaram’s father tried to train him in business but Shri Jalaram was inclined more toward charity and religious activities so he separated from his father and stayed with his Uncle-Valjibhai. Fortunately his wife, Virbaima decided to follow the path of Shri Jalaram. They spent their own money later on supported by various section of the society to feed the hungry people of the society (irrespective of Caste & Religion).

They started SADAVRATA in VIRPUR.

He was Ideal of respect, patience, self-sacrifice, duty and grace.

Out of the various occasion from his life span – one touching event is the synonym of sacrifice and same is describe in short as below.

Shri Jalarm following a request from a sick, elderly sadhu – gave his wife (VIRBAI MA) with her consent to him so he would have someone to serve him. However, the same evening the sadhu disappeared leaving a Jholo (Long shoulder Bag) and Lakdi (Walking stick) with Virbaima. The Jholo and Stick are still worshipped today in Shri Jalaram’s temple-VIRPUR.

Thanks and Kind regards,
