I honestly am surprised with the amount of hate Olivia gets. Like I get that Olivia is woke in a bad way and I don't agree with the way she politically sees the world. And also the way Olivia spoke was irritating a lot of the times. And I do realize she has her flaws. But I didn't find her insufferable, and I had sympathy to her. Just to clarify she's definetly not one of the more likeable characters, but I found her likeable. I felt like her heart was in the right place, and she tried really hard to be a good friend to Paula. And her getting upset at Paula was fair. How she treated her brother was toxic, and selfish, but I do think it shows how spoiled and controlling she is. Which the way she is raised does have to do with it. She seemed to have a good heart, and I think there were many characters that were more toxic then she was. But I may have missed something. I watched the first two episodes of white lotus approximetly a year ago, and carried on the rest of the series today, so I might have forgotten some stuff about her.

In an effort to keep the discussion from being too repetitive and fractured, the moderation team will remove duplicate discussions if a similar submission has been made in the last several days or is somewhere near the top of the subreddit.

It may just be the makeup of this subreddit, but I find it amazing how many people are so quick to call Albie an incel, and apply bad motives to him just like his father/grandfather, meanwhile Portia is the worst communicator on earth, isn't transparent or confident enough to tell Albie she's not into him the way he is clearly into her and a whiny baby complaining about a free vacation in Sicily.

Just finished watching the show, thought it was amazing. I thought it was a parable about the necessity of the metaphorical consumption of the black, queer and indigenous to feed and maintain white family, norms, and vitality. My musings on the characters and story lines: (spoilers)

Last night saw the season finale of the white Lotus. My favorite character was definitely Ethan despite his flaws. This may be the most painful to watch show that you can't stop watching. Anyways what did everyone think? My biggest takeaway was that this season felt more positive than the last despite some dark endings.

Shane was relentless the whole time. Rachel started to unravel his true colors as they stayed longer at the white lotus. Rachel wasn't perfect, but they obviously weren't a match. I think Rachel loved the attention and obsession he had with her in the beginning, but it turned out that his obsession was more sex craved and wanting a trophy wife to control, rather than true love. The show does a good job of disguising Rachel as a "gold digger", I don't believe her to be money hungry at all, but that seems to be the only redeeming factor to her staying with him. Status, comfort, and wealth. She seems disgusted by those things whenever Shane flaunts them or uses them to his advantage. It just seemed quite demeaning and opposite of what she supposedly stood for, Rachel wanted a career and didn't care about money. Did Shane beat her down so low that she eventually believed this is the only way for her to live her life? she was miserable, and will continue to be. All for what?

Do you think if Belinda had given Rachel the advice she was seeking at the end of the season, she would have left him? Belinda was obviously hurt and done with helping rich white women. Do you think if Tanya didn't leave her out to dry, Belinda would have been more sympathetic towards Rachel's situation? She was so close to leaving him. Every episode is her getting more and more done with his man child behavior. He is equally as frustrated with her and her attitude. Every time she called him out or discovered a new layer of the miserable life he was going to give her, I thought we were inching closer to her standing up for herself. She did a few times, but it ended up being for nothing.

Most fascinating to me is watching the fandom reactions to the characters and character behaviors. There is an overwhelming vibe on the White Lotus Facebook group and this subreddit and Twitter that the behaviors and characters which viewers become most up-in-arms with are character types and behaviors which they (the viewers) *have personal experience/history/trauma with*. And it's obviously so. They will extrapolate the subtlety in one character's failing to an extreme degree while nary noticing the equally (or more transgressive) toxic behaviors of another.

Anyway I have a feeling this line of thinking might piss people off, but it's just my late night ramblings. I liked almost all the characters in this show. I felt like I saw a lot of readings of Connie and Mark as oblivious embodiments of rich white privilege, but I thought of them as generally good people who, though a little prone to bickering, loved their family. Despite Quinn's desire to break out, even if he stayed in Hawaii forever and worked hard there, the fact that he could always go back to the immense wealth of his family made me feel less like he was an exception to their world. To stay seems like a bold and enlightened move, and in a sense it is, but it's a choice whose ease is afforded by the world he comes from and can return to.
