Bolest odmítnutí Jak ve svých důvěrných vztazích s přáteli zjišťujeme, láska je pokořující zkušenost. Musíme se učit, jak stále dávat a umírat, být zraňován a pokoušet se znovu a znovu překonávat překážky – milovat je hrozně pokořující. Proto ten, kdo je pyšný, nemůže milovat a růst. Žádná bolest na této zemi se nevyrovná bolesti z odmítnutí. Zvláště když položíme svůj život, když překonáme sami sebe, když otevřeme své srdce, a ten druhý to neopětuje. Odmítnutí vyjevuje zdánlivě bezedný charakter naší potřeby a naši potřebu se spojit. Lidstvo odmítá Boha od samého počátku. V bolesti z odmítnutí a v bolesti z nejednoty poznáváme, jak Bůh miluje, a tedy potřebuje. Dobří teologové nechtějí používat pro Boha slovo potřeba – potřebovat. Já ale myslím, že Bůh stvořil svět nějak i v tom smyslu, že sám cítí jakousi potřebu.

The Pain of Rejection Love is a humbling experience, as we learn in our interactions with intimate friends. We must learn how to keep giving and dying and getting hurt and trying again and overcoming the obstacles – it’s terribly humbling to love. That’s why the proud person cannot love or grow. There’s no pain on this earth like the pain of rejection.. Especially when we lay out our life, when we surrender ourself, when we let go of our heart and the other does not let go of his or hers. Rejection reveals the seemingly bottomless character of our need and our need to connect. Humanity has been rejecting God since the beginning. In the pain of being rejected, in the pain of non-union we come to know how God loves and therefore needs. Good theologians don’t want to apply the word need to God. But I think that somehow God has created a world in which, in a certain sense, God needs. from The Spiritual Family and the Natural Family
