Voda života

Lidstvo musí trvale přijímat toto Boží zaslíbení: „Učiním z vás nové stvoření. Stvořím ve vás a v tvém lidu Nový Jeruzalém. Ale vy mě musíte dovolit setřít slzu z vašich očí“ (srv. Zj 21,4–5).

Jak tomu vzdorujeme! Chodíme kolem a bijeme se v prsa s pocitem hříšnosti, jako bychom tím pro Boha nebo lidstvo něco konali! Ve skutečnosti tím ale odmítáme dovolit Bohu být milosrdný.

Dvacátá druhá kapitola knihy Zjevení (konec Bible) výmluvně vyjadřuje Boží milosrdenství: „Tato slova jsou věrná a pravá! Už jsou naplněna! Já jsem Alfa a Omega, Počátek a Konec. Každému, kdo žízní, dám zdarma napít z pramene živé vody.“

Bůh dá vodu zdarma! Lidé ale vždycky chtějí nakupovat, získávat nebo si zasloužit. Toto jsou konečná a vrcholná slova Bible:

„,Přijď!‘ A kdokoli to slyší, ať řekne: ,Přijď!‘ Kdo žízní, ať přistoupí; kdo touží, ať zadarmo nabere vody života! ... Přijď, Pane Ježíši!“ (Zj 22,17; 20)

Water of Life

Humanity must constantly receive this promise of God: “I will make you into a new creation. I will create in you and in your people the New Jerusalem. But you must let me love you and let me wipe away the tears from your eyes” (Revelation 21:4-5). How we’resist that! We go around beating our breasts and feeling sinful, as if that were doing anything for God or humans! In truth it is a refusal to allow God to be merciful.

Chapter 22 of the Book of Revelation (the end of the Bible) eloquently expresses the mercy of God: These words are trustworthy and true! They are already fulfilled! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To anyone who thirsts I will give drink without cost from the spring of life-giving water.

God will give water free! But humans always want to buy, earn or deserve. These are the final and climactic words of the Bible:

Let the one who thirsts come forward, and the one who wants it receive the life-giving water – and have it free!... Come, Lord Jesus! (Revelation 22:17, 20, NAB)
