Pět velkých darů: proroctví Prorokem je někdo, kdo mluví z naléhavosti okamžiku, s autoritou, vhledem, v němž je často spatřován vhled do plánů Božích. Prorok mluví se zvláštní neinstitucionální autoritou a bývá ve zdravém napětí s apoštolem. Je-li apoštol v jakémkoli smyslu institucionalistou, je prorok ikonoklastem. V celé biblické tradici vždy vidíme ono zdravé napětí mezi kněžími a proroky. Takové je i nutné a nakonec tvůrčí napětí mezi Davidem a Nathanem (viz 2 Sam 12,7) a mezi Petrem a Pavlem (viz Ga 2,11). Je podstatné, byť velmi zřídkavé, že kněží a proroci se v dialogu navzájem ctí a setrvávají v něm – spolu se svými vzájemně se obohacujícími dary. Jeden druhého potřebují – dnes snad více než kdy jindy. Prorok by mohl být srovnáván s dvorním šaškem, který udržuje královo povědomí o tom, jak se věci mají. Prorok je vášeň, spravedlnost, hlasatel Božích pravd, zvláště vůči všem formám institucionálního modlářství. Proroci jsou ustaveni, aby měli konflikty a aby byli odmítáni (viz Mt 23,34).

Five Great Gifts: Prophethood The prophet is the one who speaks with an immediacy, an authority, an insight that is often seen as foresight into the plan of God. The prophet speaks with a special kind of non-institutional authority and tends to be in healthy tension with the apostle. If the apostle is in any sense an institutionalist, the prophet is the iconoclast. In the whole biblical tradition we always see that healthy tension between the priests and the prophets. It is the necessary and ultimately creative tension between David and Nathan (2 Samuel 12:7) and between Peter and Paul {Galatians 2:11). It is essential, yet most rare, that priests and prophets honor and remain in dialogue with one another’s gifts. They need one another, today perhaps more than ever. The prophet could be compared to the court jester who keeps the king honest and on course. The prophet is the passion, the justice, the truth-speaker of Gad, especially to all forms of institutional idolatry.
