VM28 carbs on a CB350?

Anyone had success with swapping Mikuni VM28 carbs onto a stock CB350?  If so send me a message, I'm looking into what all is involved, how much of a pain in the butt it all is parts- and tuning-wise compared to the stock CV units. Will my new OEM intake rubbers work?  Can I still use the stock side covers?  etc etc.

I know VM30's are the more popular swap especially for the racers, but the internets seem to suggest that's too much carb for a straightforward street 350 like mine (stock exhaust, 0.25 over pistons).  But if you have an otherwise stock bike with VM30's that does as great in Chicago stop'n'go as it does WOT on the open road somewhere between Milwaukee and Minneapolis, let me know that too.

Been spending too much time trying to track down elusive CV carb problems when I really want direct slide response anyway.  (Matt, yeah, you told me so...)

thanks!

Mike at power-barn.com has a complete VM30 kit.

You could reach out to him and see what he might be able to do in a 28. He cooked up a carb kit for Jennifer's DR350 that turned it into a totally new bike.

The VM30's work very well for the 350's, they are not relegated to track use only.  There are lots of users of the VM30's on cb350's on this list, I'm sure they have opinions to share.  There are no VM28 carburetors.  They are actually TM28 flatslide and Mikuni labels them VM28-418.

A common misunderstanding of the smoothbore carbs is that if you whack the throttle open too much under too much of a load (i.e. low RPM) then the engine will stumble because of the loss of airflow.  This is just the nature of smoothbore carbs.  It is overcome by the modern day accelerator pump.  This leads many to believe the carbs are oversized.  Granted this happens with oversized carbs, you will always have some sort of stumble with smoothbores if you whack the throttle too far too fast.

The TM28's will flow better and do better at the lower RPM's.  They will give a fatter torque curve down low, however they will still stumble if opened too fast too soon.  As far as I know there are no kits anywhere that are composed of 28mm carburetors.

With that said if you're interested in putting something together using TM28's or Keihin PE28's I would be happy to work with you and develop a kit.  There would be the carbs, carb holders, cables, and air filters.  Ping me off list if interested.
