unlikely... if the chap is handy with a multimeter at all, have him measure the primary and secondary resistances. that info can probably be cross referenced to discover a $13 replacement coil that will work. I remember a Kevin Cameron article about Ignitions (CDI vs TDI vs points vs whatever) and his main theme was that there is no such thing as performance ignition parts, only adequate or inadequate for the system as it is designed. It has stuck with me, and my intuition would be that there are many aftermarket coils that would be adequate for a 94 virago.
