73 photo-laden pages of vintage tool boxes.
Very cool stuff here.
You want patina? Here it is.
Original pristine specimens, well-used cabinets, wooden machinists
chests, restorations, turds, junk, and everything in between.
Black/red Craftsman rollaways I used to see at Sears when I was a
kid. Older Craftsman as well. Like the silver/red ones that were sold
up til the '70's. Craftsman "crown" logos, "Craftsman Commercial"
boxes also. Snap-On boxes going back to the 1920's, Mac Tools circa
1950, 70's Matco, Montgomery Wards Powr Kraft, JCPenney
Penncraft. Various other manufacturers past & present like S-K, Proto,
Kennedy, Plomb, Vulcan, Cornwell, Remline, Park, MBC, Britool,
Waterloo, Simonsen, Duplex, Tru-Test, Blackhawk, Williams, New
Britain, Thorsen, Beach, Huot, Blue Point, Dunlap, Enox, Fleet, the
list goes on.
They don't make em like they used to.
Well some still are. Today's stuff from Snap-On (and some other mfg's)
is built to last, but if you buy a new one, it'll set you back even
more than that titled Craigslist CB550 you've had your eye on.
But as you read along you'll notice that a lot of the old boxes can be
had on Craigslist, garage sales, flea markets, estate sales, etc.for
very little cash.
Many just need some elbow grease and WD40, others could use some
sanding, hammering, and a Rustoleum spray-bombing, and others can be
put into service as-is.
