Saving children with leukemia

For the last 20 years, the Icla da Silva Foundation had been helping
people with leukemia. By doing drives throughout the US we give
education and create awareness about the need of potential stem-cell
donors and bone marrow donors. After knowing that it only takes a swab
to know if they can save a life, many people joined the registry. 70%
of the people afflicted by leukemia are children and Hispanics are the
ethnic group with more incidence of this disease. Ethnicity has a lot
to do with matching. Sadly, Hispanics are underrepresented in the
National Registry which makes it even harder for people of this
origins to find their perfect match.
At this moment we are looking for a matching donor for Johnny, a 3
years old Venezuelan child; for Sergio, an 9 years old Colombian boy,
for Nayelis a 2 years old Puerto Rican toddler; for Daniel, a 5 years
old Brazilian boy; for Juan Jose and David, both 15 years old from the
Dominican Republic and many more. Their only chance to survive is
finding a perfect match. For every 20,000 people registered only one
will match. At this moment there are 9 million people on the National
Registry but no one has matched any of these children, that is how
difficult it is to find the correct match. Every new person joining
the registry will bring one new hope. That is why we need to spread
the word and register as many people as possible, time is crucial.

fundraising to cover the costs of each registry and to create
