Project Progress is looking for volunteers again this spring semester! We are a student-led group that has been running since 2008, teaching English to the immigrant community. Many of the people we tutor come from all over the world to work and would greatly appreciate assistance in overcoming their language barriers in a foreign land. If interested in committing at least 2 hours every week to work with different people, please see the attachment for more details. Applications are due January 22, 2012- send electronically to project.p...@gmail.com. Thank you for your interest!

A Talk on Immigration, January 15, 2012 from 5-6:30 p.m
One of the hottest and most controversial issues today in the United State is Immigration. How many immigrants are there in our country and why are so many undocumented? Do taxpayers pay more for services to undocumented workers or do these workers do the jobs that most citizens won’t do and pay into our tax system? How do police deal with immigrants? Hospitals? Schools? Should immigrant students be allowed to receive federal and state aid for college? Should those who are not documented be allowed a path to become citizens?
On Sunday evening, January 15, 2012 from 5-6:30 p.m., The Harvest of Hope Foundation would like to invite you to join our discussion “Talk on Immigration – Is There a Just Solution?” at University Lutheran Church at 1826 West University Avenue in Gainesville, Florida. The event is open to the general public. Light refreshments will be served.
The fundraiser features discussions by area Immigration experts including:
5:15 – 5:20 Introduction by Philip Kellerman, President, Harvest of Hope Foundation.

5:50 – 6:00 Laura Castanos of the Alachua Multi-County Migrant Education Program will address immigrant issues as they affect area migrant and immigrant workers and families.
6:00 - 6:10 Eric Castillo, Outreach Chair for the Campaign for an American Dream will speak about the Dream Act and the Campaign for An American Dream in which five immigrant students will walk across the country in support of immigrant rights
