Chipyard vs Gem5

Hello Guys,

I am just recently entering computer architecture world and there are a lot of computer architecture tools that I still don't understand. Most of the paper I read are using gem5 for their simulation. Can you guys explain to me what is the main difference between gem5 and chipyard? When should I use chipyard or gem5?

Just my opinion, but I think gem5 is more high level than chipyard. I heard that gem5 is not suitable for simulating tweak in micro arch, but how about chipyard?
