Hi all,

Thanks a lot for your effort to prepare the FPGA prototyping tutorial.
However, I have one question on the VCU110 board.

Since I notice that the FPGA shell will generate constraint files, which connect the design related port to the PMOD pins for SD card data access.
However, according to the documentation of VCU118, it seems that the SD card can be only used for FPGA configuration via system monitor (a Zynq SoC).

Do I misunderstand some part of the flow? Or should I make some change to the switches on the development board? This situation is similar when we are trying to prototyping on VCU108.

THANKS again for your time and patience! ^_^

Hello,

You are correct that the SD card reader that is built-in to the VCU118 is only accessible by the auxiliary system configuration Zynq FPGA. This is used for adjusting things on the VCU118 like clocks, FMC functionality, and power systems. Those should be left as defaults when using the Chipyard FPGA prototyping flow. No changes to the configuration DIP switches on the board are necessary.

The SD card that is referenced in the tutorial is connected to the PMOD header of the board, using an adapter like this one.

Here is where the SDIO connections are made to the PMOD pins in fpga-shells.

Best,
James

Hi James,

Thanks a lot for your clear explanation! Later we will try to push some configs for other evaluation boards ^_^

Hello,

Thank you for your kind reply.

It seems that the SD card that is referenced in the tutorial is using an adapter like this link.

May I ask if both Full-sized SD Card Slot and MicroSD Card Slot are all adaptive to VCU118 Prototyping of SD Card Access?

Best,
Candice

Hello,

The pinouts for these adapters are the same, so both will work.

The only difference is the lack of "write protect" on the micro SD adapter's pin 10, but this should not matter for use with the Chipyard flow.

Best,
James
