Hi all,

You may remember we had a lengthy discussion on Ford Mackenzie's parentage in the initial validations, with a majority voting to include Timbermist Yukon Jack as his sire while some preferred to keep the sire line OPEN to match the AKC & UKC pedigrees.

As Susan Bragg noted a while ago,  additional information was uncovered in the form of Harry Gray's breeding record/journal.  This noted  Northdown Lone Ranger (-X?) as the sire, possibly crossed out, big question mark.

There is no way to tell if this is true, or who Lone Ranger was (likely one of the pups for the three liters born almost simultaneously in Alaska and commingled).

So, based on prior confusion over Ford's Mac's parentage, and this additional information,  I propose we change Ford's Mackenzie's pedigree to OPEN sire, and leave Dunn's Kiana as his dam (this part seems fairly clear!).

If you disagree, please speak up by noon on Tuesday June 16th.

I agree with keeping it OPEN.  Was DNA ever done on him to check him against any of the potential sires?  I have some vague memories of that being discussed.  I wish we had all of Joyce’s files available to us or even just her brain.  She would have known this stuff.

Ford's Mackenzie was never DNA Profiled, unfortunately.  While some of his possible sires may have been DNA profiled at Northdown, most of those results were never registered with the COA/UKC/MMI.  Until/unless those results are ever made public (if indeed they even still exist), we'll never have an opportunity to match anything back (Mac, Nugget, etc.).

I've tried to reconstruct some of Ford's MacKenzie, but to date just have a profile form a single offspring, which gets us exactly nowhere.  If we ever have possible sire profiles, we could be more aggressive about reconstructing Mac from some other offspring profiles.

OPEN is good in 2015, yes.  Truth be told, I had already updated his sire to lone ranger, when I bumped in to an also cleaner/unmarked copy of ND Register last winter, aye.

Nugget remains also UKC DNA-P, aye.  So just shout if any of the dogs which could also have sired her or F Mac have their profiles transferred to UKC DNA dbase too finally, tx.  Otherwise, I can only relist one or two handful(s) of dogs which may have sired F Mac.  At least ONE of which remains potential sire of ND Nugget.  Which isn't good.  But there you have it, then as now.  Just shout, if you need me or more of my also dna(s), etc.

best, susan
