It seems unusual to me that a bitch would have pups in February (of 1961), raise them, wean them, and go into season in time to be bred and carry a litter for nine weeks to give birth in June of 1961 (bred ~ April 25th when previous litter was just 11 weeks old). That is more like the timing of a cat’s reproductive system than a dog’s. During this time was Dr. Smead living at the kennel with Honey?
So I’m just wondering if the third litter could possibly be that of some other female. It’s pretty rare that a bitch goes into season this soon after having her pups. She hasn’t had time to shed out all her old coat yet and get into her “party clothes” yet. Very often having a litter will upset the schedule of the bitch’s seasons; I once saw Holly go ten months between hers after having pups and her next season. But I’ve never seen them come in quicker, only have a longer duration.
Was this possibly an accidental breeding if the dates are correct? Were there possibly multiple sires if she wasn’t due to go into season and was kenneled with multiple males?
