All the greats think about their sport/game 24/7. Even when they are doing something else unrelated to it they are in the background computing stuff related to their game. Does anyone on here think about chess 24/7 if so how long did it take for this to happen? I think the key to be a great player or great at anything is to be constantly thinking about what it is you want to be great at all the time. The problem is I have no clue or understanding of chess even on the basic level to begin this process of thinking about the game deeply. Help!

In return, Willie did what he could. He held the good spot in front of the TV while Sly gathered what Willie wanted. He played game after game of chess with him. Sly tried to teach Willie to play aggressively, to always look for the kill.

I started playing chess with Fran Farrell about ten years ago, shortly after I learned he had been diagnosed with ALS. At the time when we began playing, we were more acquaintances than friends, but regular play brought us closer together. After I heard about his diagnosis, I proposed that we start playing as often as we could, as I knew that ALS would eventually wreak havoc on his body, but his mind would remain sharp and alert, something that you needed when playing chess. At first, we played actual games over a board, but when his arms began to fail him, we switched to online play, first on the app Chess with Friends and then eventually on Chess.com, which he could handle better with eye-gaze technology. He gave himself the name Bridgepoint, after the street on which he lived, and I gave myself the name LHOOQ, after the five letters that the artist Marcel Duchamp wrote below an image of the Mona Lisa (that artist having been the specialty of my studies in art history, as Duchamp was himself an avid chess player).

L.K. My father taught me at age 7, and I had a lesson on how to do the king and rook checkmate at age 8 from Harold Phillips, the first USCF president and a New York champion in the year 1895 (!!). His daughter and my mother were best friends from college.

L.K. From the age of 8 to 14, I only played with school mates and occasionally with my father and his chess friends. But this plus a lot of reading was enough to bring me to Class A level.

L.K. D.C. area had the Washington Chess Divan downtown, which I went to when I could get down there. There was (and still is) the Arlington Chess Club, but I rarely went there. There was also the Takoma Park Chess Club run by Larry Gilden, which was my main club until it folded. Gilden was the first really top level player I met, and was my chess hero for years. Many years later we played a 20 game match of game/30, which I won by a single game.

L.K. Yes. I would play anyway, but the fact that the winner gets the GM title makes it mandatory for me to go, in my first year of eligibility. I know that winning the World title is no easier than making a GM norm and hence a huge longshot for me, but I would only have to do it once, not three times!

L.K. It was a great sense of relief for me (and for Ray); the thought of his having to spend many more months globetrotting in search of the final norm after several very near misses was unbearable. He made the final norm on the same day as the Senior Open awards ceremony! We believe that we are the only parent/child combination in the U.S. to earn the IM title, though there are some where the parent is an FM.

He had set out to play the royal game for 58 hours but continued until he reached 60 hours at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, surpassing the current chess marathon record of 56 hours, 9 minutes and 37 seconds, achieved in 2018 by Norwegians Hallvard Haug Flateb and Sjur Ferkingstad.

Onakoya played against Shawn Martinez, an American chess champion, in line with Guinness World Record guidelines that any attempt to break the record must be made by two players who would play continuously for the entire duration.

Support had been growing online and at the scene, where a blend of African music kept onlookers and supporters entertained amid cheers and applause. Among the dozens who cheered Onakoya on at the scene was Nigerian music star Davido.

For every hour of game played, Onakoya and his opponent got only five minutes' break. The breaks were sometimes grouped together, and Onakoya used them to catch up with Nigerians and New Yorkers cheering him on. He even joined in with their dancing sometimes.

There are many good chess coaches everywhere who teach young children the fundamentals of playing chess. This includes the rules, the different patterns, moves, and excellent strategies that will make you dominate your opponent. But most of them fail to demonstrate chess to young children creatively. Susan Polgar, a chess player grand master, will be sharing her childhood experiences in playing chess and what aroused her interest to teach and play the game.

I'm currently exploring an idea that could potentially transform the way we play chess. I'm developing a 3D Multiplayer Chess Game designed specifically for the Oculus Quest 2 and I'm eager to hear your thoughts on this concept.

The unique aspect of this game is its integration with Lichess, one of the largest online chess platforms. This means players will have the opportunity to challenge a diverse range of opponents who are active 24/7, bringing the global chess community into the immersive world of VR.

This is a great opportunity to discuss the future of VR gaming and how we can bring traditional games like chess into this new medium. I'm excited to hear your thoughts and ideas, and I look forward to a fruitful discussion!

I'm not any good at chess, but I do love to play, and this sounds awesome! I think something that makes all VR games like this more immersive and enjoyable is the option for hand tracking. It's a lot more natural to be able to just use your hands to move chess pieces than a controller! I also love anything with customization, so I like to hear that you're already considering customizable chess pieces and environments. I can't wait to see where this goes!
