Hi,

I am having problems inputting traditional chinese using the pinyin
method for idioms. If I use the simplified chinese, it works fine.
For example, I want to enter 餐廳。In the simplified chinese input
(ITABC), I simply enter "canting" and it works fine. Using the
traditional chinese (Pinyin under the Input Menu), I have to enter in
"can" select, then "ting." Can I make it work just by entering in
"canting?" Thanks.

That website is how I first found out about this site and I looked and
could not find anything besides saying to use QIM. But I was wondering
if Mac OS X had any settings itself that I could use instead of third
party software. I could not find the answer to my question on that
yale site.

Hi Raymond,

No, you can't type canting, but you can type can1ting1. The
traditional Chinese input method, called Hanin, requires tones to be
entered; I personally liked being forced to enter tones, but QIM is
the best option if you prefer to enter text like canting or phrases
like zheigecantingbucuo. But back to Hanin: there is an explanation
on the FAQ about how to set up Hanin to work with pinyin or zhuyin,
and how to use it in general:

http://www.yale.edu/chinesemac/pages/tcim_x4.html#Hanin

Let us know if you have any questions.

Best,
Joe

謝謝你。I think I will stick with QIM then.
