How to make Zhuyin input on High Sierra (10.13.6) more like on iOS?

Dears, hi,

I've been using zhuyin input on iOS pretty much nonstop since I started learning traditional characters, and I pretty much love, how I can type only the initial and it can still recognise my intended word (despite few quirks such as ㄅㄧ not showing 不要 in the candidate list).

However, after getting a mac few days ago, the zhuyin input is a total pain in comparison. How can I make it more "dynamic" and similar to the input on iOS? My main pain points:
- no candidate window showing without pressing space (compared even to pinyin input for traditional chars)
- I have to type the entire phonetics, including the character tone
- I cannot type more syllables at the same time, only one at a time (e.g. I cannot type ㄅㄨㄧㄠ <space>, I have to type ㄅㄨˋㄧㄠˋ)

Can you please help me with either letting me know, how to make it more like the iOS one? Or recommend an external input method? I would prefer to have the writing experience as consistent as possible.

Tried googling, but there is very few resources about this.

Thank you very much!

Hi Ule,

as far as I know your kind of “dynamic" you are looking for in Zhuyin for mac is not available.
A similar “dynamic” you can get when using Pinyin instead.

However the Zhuyin on mac is following another kind of “dynamic".
You just have to keep typing and trust it will show the right word.

From the example of the (macOS Mojave) help file:
for example if you want to type: 植物學 (ㄓˊㄨˋㄒㄩㄝˊ)

you just type:
56 (will get 直)

now keep typing
j4 will get you (職務)

now keep typing
vm,6 will “magically” get you (植物學)

So you just typed [56j4vm,6] to get 植物學
so as you can see the characters automatically change to the right one.

The main downside on this is that you almost always have to type a tone first to show a character.
It has to display a character first before you can continue to type the next word.
If you got the tone wrong it won’t display the right word.

If you are using Tradiitonal Pinyin on mac:
You just have to type:
zwx for (Zhi Wu Xue) and find the right one. (when using vertical candidate window)
( hit down first, when using horizontal candidate window)

By the way on my iOS 12.0.1 it does show 不用 (as first suggestion) for entering ㄅㄧ

Greetings
Jacky

Are there any third party IMEs for macOS zhuyin? The gboard zhuyin on Android is pretty solid in comparison as well.
