Betti Xiang: A native of Shanghai, China has a distinguished career in the United States performing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Albany Symphony Orchestra, as well as at the Ravinia International Music Festival, Lincoln Center, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, and as the soloist in Tan Dun's erhu concerto, Crouching Tiger, for the inaugural celebration of Chicago's Millennium Park. Among her various collaborations, Xiang performs with Yo-Yo Ma as a member of the Silk Road Ensemble. See www.xiangerhu.com for more info.

Featured with The Florida Orchestra, erhu virtuoso Betti Xiang will perform Chen/He's The Butterfly Lovers, a work considered by many to be one of the most popular Chinese compositions ever. Often called the Chinese Romeo and Juliet, the tale is of a couple who is unable to marry, dies of broken hearts and is united after death as butterflies. The USF Confcuius Institute Chinese Cultural Center will be formally open to the public from February 13, 2009 (Friday). Thanks to the USF Provost's Office, we have got HMS 214 as the new location of the Chinese Cultural Center. Now the preparation of the new center. The center will begin its regular operations this Friday afternoon.

From 1 pm to 9 pm Friday the Center will hold an open house of the new center.  We will provide snacks and drinks to the visitors and Chinese cultural sourveniors will also be given out on a limited basis.

After the intensive preparation of some time, the Chinese Cultural Center is now ready for operations. The center has a large screen LCD TV that has numerous Chinese channels and Chinese programs on demand. The center also has a large number of books, video materials about the Chinese culture and language. It has a large variety of chessess and first-class KARAOKE machine. The center will continue to expand its resources for cultrual facilities and materials. The center is making every effort to become a platform to access the Chinese culture and language. The center will hold a variety of cultrual activities such as seminars, performances, competition, etc. Friends who are interested in the Chinese culture will have an opportuntiy to demonstrate their talents here. This will be a cultural home for the Chinese and friends interested in China. The center will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. every working Monday to Thursday and 3 to 9 p.m every Friday.

南佛大学孔子学院周年庆祝系列活动

 

南佛大学孔子学院已经成立整整一年了。在过去的一年中,孔子学院在大家的关心和大力支持下茁壮成长。为了庆祝孔子学院成立一周年,也为了答谢各界对于孔子学院的厚爱,孔子学院和孔子学院后援委员会将举办一系列庆祝活动。 在此我们特别邀请大家参加孔子学院周年庆典和中华食品文化节。

另外,作为庆祝孔子学院周年院庆系列活动的一部分,休斯敦中国总领事馆将于228日在南佛大学内为中国公民包括学生学者提供的换发护照和公证服务。孔子学院后援委员会将228日(星期六)将在Cooper Hall 前的广场举办中华美食节活动。 将展示和出售中国各地丰富多样的风味小吃,并介绍中国饮食文化的特点。美食节的时间是上午1100 到下午300 欢迎各界朋友前来参加活动并品尝美味的中华小吃。

     美食节活动对所有人开放,不需预定。
