福布莱特学者肖晓燕博士将在UD讲述中国聋人的生存现状

福布莱特学者(Fulbright Scholar)、特拉华大学孔子学院中方院长肖晓燕博士将于本周四225日晚在UD开讲,讲述中国2千万聋人的生存现状。


肖晓燕博士是厦门大学外文学院教授,现任特拉华大学孔子学院中方院长。肖博士的研究方向为翻译学和语言学。肖博士曾获得英国文化委员会(British Council)、欧盟亚洲联系(EU Asia-Link)、欧盟伊拉莫斯(Erasmus Mundus)及中国国家留学基金等项目资助赴英国、爱尔兰、奥地利及美国(UCLA)访学。2012-2013年度肖博士作为中美福布莱特研究学者在加劳德特大学(Gallaudet University)和乔治敦大学(Georgetown University)访学,从语言学和翻译学的角度研究中国的手语翻译。


本期讲座是特拉华大学2016度三场“福布莱特系列讲座”第一讲。肖博士将讲述自己和聋人的故事,分享她通过手语及手语翻译研究所了解和接触到的中国聋人群体的生存状态,包括他们的家庭生活、他们的教育和就业等问题。讲座语言为英文,现场配美国手语翻译。

In collaboration with the Institute of Global Studies, Dr. Xiaoyan Xiao, Co-Director of the Confucius Institute will present a lecture about her research on Chinese sign language and the Deaf community in China.

In this talk, Dr. Xiao, an expert in interpretation from Xiamen University, will share how her passion for language led her to research the status of the more than 20 million Deaf people in China. She’ll brief the audience on family life, education, and career opportunities for the Chinese Deaf community today. She will also discuss how her Fulbright residency at Gallaudet University led her to understand current problems, prospects, and the path forward for the largest Deaf community in the world.
