The Independence School is a co-ed independent day school welcoming students from age 3 through the 8th grade.  Our mission is to inspire students to become intellectually curious individuals, with an exceptional spirit for learning, leadership, and citizenship. At Independence, we teach our students the skills that are key to academic success and we teach them that the work of learning is full of joy. Our students master not only math, science, and history, but also conflict resolution and moral decision making. They learn that they each have the ability—and the responsibility—to grow into strong leaders and good citizens.

In a recent survey of alumni in 9th grade, 100% felt prepared for high school and 85% felt better prepared than their freshman peers. Each member of the Independence Class of 2015 was offered admission to their top choice school.  They were awarded over $800,000 in scholarships over their high school careers.  Our current 8th graders continue to be highly sought after by area high schools.  This class recently completed the WrAP (Writing Assessment Program) and the scores confirmed the results of our strong writing curriculum -- compared to other students in independent schools nationwide, 88% of the class performed in the above average range. Even more impressive is that 77% of the class scored above the 92nd percentile when compared to their peers in other independent schools.  Members of our Class of 2012 have received early admission to Princeton, Yale, U Penn-Wharton, and Columbia.  Indeed, an investment in an Independence education is worth it.
