Hi All Friends,

I have discussed this issue with Professor Chengqi Zhang at AAMAS this
year. He told me that they tried to bring AAMAS to China before as well.
It wasn't successful because no many promising professors at AAMAS are
from China. But, trying to promoting AAMAS in China is a good idea and
starting point. Doing so will allow many agent researchers in China to
get to know this venue, and eventually will join us and bring impact to
this community. I would like to suggest us to first invite some agent
professors or students who we know in China to submit papers to here.
This is the least thing we are able to do at this point. I actually am
working with a Chinese professor on submitting a paper to AAMAS09. Hope
it turns out to be successful.

It would be good to hear from you about your opinions as well.

Yours,

Jie Zhang

Hi, all,

As far as I know, IFAAMAS wants to have AAMAS in China or Hongkong. I know one professor in China bided for AAMAS 09 but his proposal was rejected unluckily. He is not a professor in MAS area. AAMAS 09 will in Europe, AAMAS 10 will be in Canada. AAMAS 11 should be in China, Japan, Australia, or Hongkong. Also, IFAAMAS wants to bring more Chinese professors to the board of directors. IFAAMAS just wants to be more representative.

As mentioned by Jie, MAS research in China has minimal impact on the MAS community. Prof. Chengqi Zhang and Prof. Jiming Liu are not in the mainland China. What we can do is introducing AAMAS to more Chinese researchers and inviting them to submit papers to AAMAS. On the other hand, you can persuade your advisor to support having AAMAS 11 in China.

Have a good summer,

Bo

Hi all,

I agree. Writing papers with our friends in China and bringing AAMAS conference to China are great ways to bring more impact of Chinese scholars into the field, and both are achievable in a short term.

Aside from writing papers with our known friends, if it is possible, we should extend our collaboration network with other capble scholars and students inside China. Maybe we should figure out a way to match our individual interests with those we don't know inside China, then we can work together to produce high quality works and try to publish them in some important AI conferences including AAMAS. I always think that there are many capable scholars and students available inside China. To produce great results, what they need is just some research topics, some colleagues, and work on them step by step with patience.

In a longer term, we should think about how to work together with our Chinese colleages inside to raise more funds for agent research fromt the government and the industry.

My question: Is there a good way to build up a communication platform between us and our colleagues in China to promote our collobaration, and write funding proposals together? Any ideas?

Cheers,
Yuqing
