Dear friends,

Hope you all have a nice holiday! Happy new year!
The very first event we have in the coming semester is a panel discussion about nonprofits and government. CPLI works with PSS, PASA, and SPEA Alumini Association to organize this event. We invite local community leaders to join our panel and discuss key issues regarding the relationships between government and nonprofits.

Please mark your calendar for this event. Hope to see you there!

Best,

Xiaoyun (Julia) Wang

Nonprofits & Government: Panel Discussion, Jan. 23

January 23, 2014 5:30 pm - January 23, 2014 6:45 pm

Government policies have a significant impact on every nonprofit organization and the people they serve. Philanthropic Studies Society, Public Affairs Student Association, China Philanthropy Leadership Initiative, and the SPEA Alumni Association present a panel of nonprofit policy leaders who will examine the role nonprofits play in shaping policy and the complex relationship between the nonprofit and public sectors. Discussion topics include:

  • What policies in Indiana impact the ability of nonprofits to produce social goods – such as health, education, and community development?
  • What role do nonprofits have in shaping policy?
  • What actions can nonprofits take to align the public sector with its goals?
  • How does nonprofit advocacy impact civil society?

Attendees will learn ways nonprofits can influence the policies that help build a better future in Indiana and create a strong civil society.

Panelists:

  • Andy Fraizer: Executive Director, Indiana Association for Community Economic Development
  • Haley Glover: Director of Convening Strategy, Lumina Foundation
  • Jay Hein: President, Sagamore Institute
  • Jane Henegar: Executive Director, American Civil Liberties Union
  • David Sklar: Director of Government Affairs, Jewish Community Relations Council

Moderator: Dr. Sheila Kennedy: Professor of Law and Public Policy, SPEA IUPUI

Join us for a reception after the panel discussion at the Tomlinson Tap Room in City Market right next door to The Platform.
