Development of the Social Entrepreneurship Sector in China

China’s social entrepreneurship sector is still in its early stages but its growth expectations for the next few years is exponential given the size of the economy and the social needs. In addition to the regular challenges faced by social entrepreneurs, Chinese Social enterprises face unique challenges due to the influential role played by the government.
 
AVPN member, Non-profit Incubator (NPI) will provide us with an overview of the Chinese social sector, the development of the social entrepreneurship sector and highlight some of the key challenges and opportunities including the need for seed funding for early-stage social enterprises, scaling up supporting networks and intermediaries and building the human resource capacity.

 

About the speaker:

 

Ms. Li Ding is the Vice President of Non-Profit Incubator (NPI) – one of the leading NGO supporting organizations in China. She is responsible for NPI Business Development Department and she also leads the R&D for strategic initiatives such as the Shanghai United Foundation, Shanghai Social Innovation Park, Social Entrepreneurs Institute and Venture Philanthropy Fund. Ms. Ding has more than 11 years of working experience in multi-national companies including Danone, L'Oreal and Unilever and over 10 years in China’s emerging Third Sector. Ms. Ding was a trainer of the British Council Social Entrepreneurship skills training program from 2009-2012. She is also member of the Committee of the Pudong New District People's Political Consultative Conference of Shanghai. She also serves as a member of the Global agenda council on Social Innovation established by World Economic Forum from 2013 - 2014.
