Hi All,

I've been slowly working on an adventure module on and off and I
thought I'd post here to mention that it will be a Time Travel module.
Anyway I'm getting nearer and nearer to being done at my usual pace of
procrastination and I thought I'd ask about everyone's module
presentation preferences. Namely, does everyone like the "classic" old
school TSR sort of module or the cheesier JG sort of thing? I was
thinking of illustrating it myself with cartoons but I was wondering
if more conventional and realistic artwork, of the period in which the
module is set, would be more appropriate. In other words to make the
text and illustrations look like the era in which the game is set.

Thoughts?

Greg, I am of the age where I can also legally use the term "old school" to describe my experience with role playing games and I would prefer a module to have the classic TSR look. I don't have any experience with newer modules so I can't give you any otehr reasons besides the fact that I simply would prefer the formatting be one that I am comfortable with. Illustrations and cartoons are always a plus.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I would count that as one vote for the "classic" module appearance! I want to make this the best module I've made to date so knowing what people like and expect is important.

You know I'm a student of the Old School, so you won't go wrong with a
simple, open layout. For illustrations, I recommend period art. I've
had some decent results with clip art, and recommend B+W illos for
printer-friendly publishing.

Despite my lack of graphic design ability, I've come up with a master
template for the Chimera 2.0 documents. I'm back to using Serif's
PagePlus (version 10) instead of OpenOffice--the former allows for
more design control--and I can send the template if you're interested.

I'm excited to see the next draft of your module. Which reminds me
that I owe you the updated Quick Start...gimme a few weeks
(September?) As I'm going under the knife again shortly.

Cheers,
-Erin

Hi Erin,

Well, that's two votes for the old school, check! :) Thanks for the offer of the Serif template, I'm so far behind in versions though, I"m at 4, I think I'll have to make my own template because yours probably won't be compatible. That's OK though as it won't be too hard for me to whip something up along the lines of classic modules.

I really like the period illustrations and so on in the Chimera Rules. Visual cues like that get players and GMs thinking in terms of the setting. Its something tangible that players don't have to visualize. I've been looking round for clip art that fits in with what I'm interested in but I think I might have to draw some of it. I was thinking about something like the early action comics, well, my take on it anyway, and of course the cover.

Your going under the knife! That doesn't sound like fun. I hope its nothing serious. Well, don't worry about this Chimera stuff at all. Take care of yourself first and get better soon! I'm sure you've got lots on the burner already and I'm not quite finished yet anyway so it can wait. I'm going to sit on the draft a while longer because I want to shove the content into the layout, get the art going, etc. before I send this along to you for another peek. Its been a long time coming and I don't want to disappoint.

Take Care,

 Greg
