This took some thinking and work, but I've got nothing better to do when I'm the only one in my office because everyone else is on vacation. :(

The Agents of Oblivion conversion is here, with accompanying (and stand-alone-able) Sanity rules here.

If anyone's got better Sanity rules, I'd like to see them.  I'm not crazy about mine, but they work for AoO.

Hi October,

This is a good start.

At first blush, I think the TN table provides helpful guidelines - particular monsters, powers, other triggers would likely have static Fear TNs (Note: Seems I missed including Fear as an Enchantment Power - I'll remedy that soon enough).

My only *suggestion* is something like this:

Critical Success (CS): Not even a shiver, and no need to make a Fear check next time you confront this particular horror.
Normal Success (NS): No effect - you're steadfast
Normal Failure (NF): You're shaken, but still capable of action; roll on the Fear table
Critical Failure (CF): You're too scared to even piss yourself; roll on the Unhinged table

The Fear table entries are good - I like that you've represented all these mechanically (and, thanks for including Stun). Unhinged as a Flaw works very well - the only addition I'd make there is the chance of a relapse if, after "recovery," the same threat is confronted.

Thanks for sharing this. Cheers,

-- Erin

Hmm...

I'll have to think about this.  I like the simplicity of your suggestion, but I think the Fear table is too progressive to just roll randomly on it.  I could rework it so that the effects are all different, but generally the same level of drawback.

I think I'm going to add a Perk along the lines of "Been There, Seen That" to give a bonus to Sanity rolls.  I think GURPS calls it "Unfazeable" or something.  I have to see what the Supernatural RPG has, if anything, along those lines.  That's my next conversion project, as I'm a HUGE fan of the show.

I'll give this some more thought.  Thanks for your input!  Have a great weekend!

Hi October,

By all means, whatever works best for your vision of Sanity/Fear in the game. It's something I've had in the back of my mind (I had some Fear guidelines in Chimera 2.0, but they need rework).

My suggestion is more based on not having to track a Sanity level, but I could see the value in the right setting (kinda like how CoC uses it).

More to come, I'm sure. Enjoy your weekend!

Cheers,
