About VDay Hudson Valley was launched in 2010 by Lara Hope, in an effort to raise money for one our favorite charities. Lara's first production of Vagina Monologues was in 2005 at SUNY New Paltz, which is when she made a connection with the project. Thus far, VDay Hudson Valley has raised close $10,000, the most most money raised for Family of Woodstock by a single local event. Totally awesome! This year, our goal is to break our record and bring in even larger contribution for our beloved cause, please help spread the word, make donations, and help us make a difference for women in the Hudson Valley and around the world.
Sponsors Wanted:
We need items for our auction, raffle and of course financial donations. Any local or national businesses interested in supporting our effort should contact e...@chillmedianorth.com.
ABOUT A MEMORY, A MONOLOGUE, A RANT AND A PRAYER: WRITINGS TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & GIRLS:
A groundbreaking collection of monologues by world-renowned authors and playwrights, edited by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle. These diverse voices rise up in a collective roar to break open, expose, and examine the insidiousness of violence at all levels: brutality, neglect, a punch, even a put-down. The volume features such authors and topics as: Edward Albee on S&M; Maya Angelou on women's work and many others.
ABOUT VDAY:
V-Day is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery. Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues, A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer, Any One Of Us: Words From Prison, screenings of V-Day's documentary Until The Violence Stops, and the PBS documentary What I Want My Words To Do To You, Spotlight Teach-Ins and V-Men workshops, to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. In 2012, over 5,800 V-Day benefit events took place produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls.
