Hey Guys,

About yesterday's video: It was very funny. But I think there is a
subtler point.

If people were happy about horse carriages, we would not have cars.
Nor would we have concrete housing/computers/cell phones..
If I can stretch it further, the Kriya itself could have been the
result of guruji's discontentment with what the world had to offer.

My argument is - discontentment(and unhappiness??) is essential for progress..
Then it begs the question - Is progress important enough to trade inner peace?

your thoughts?

peace,
-Vinodh

Good question Vinodh.

If discontentment and unhappiness were the sole sources of progress, then places like Ethiopia and Somalia would have progressed far ahead of the rest of the world -- but they have not. Guruji says silence, not discontentment, is the true source of creativity and resourcefulness. The contentment he teaches is not a passive or resigned form of contentment; it is lively and supports progress.

The same is his guidance on protesting injustice. Most protest movements are grounded in deep discontentment. That sentiment, when taken to an extreme, leads to terrorism. Instead, he says, be grounded in spiritual values, and keep doing your bit to effect change from that space of sattva.

Art of Living has played an active role in "India Against Corruption". The following video is of Anna Hazare, Guruji, Arvind Kejriwal, and Swami Agnivesh in satsang. It's 40 minutes long but worth watching, Shraddha and I watched it over breakfast yesterday. All Hindi, no subtitles (sorry).

Adding to what Anoop has said, discontentment can only be a source for a change in life. Change of place, job, things. I'm not happy with my job today, I quit for something new. Whether I find the new place/job/thing interesting or not is again only the mind's play. People wanted to save time, so they invented cars, not because they were dissatisfied with carriages. Horses are still admired even today. Necessity paved way for creativity and invention. This reminds me of Rajima's words.. living on the basis of 'need' and not of 'want' - Discontentment will arise only at either of the extremes, when you want more or you don't want anything at all. The world is in 'need' of Kriya today and that is what Guruji has offered us. The video shared by Anoop is definitely worth watching, so inspirational and full of positive energy.
