Dear All,

You are very well aware that Government of India is in a process to present new Land acquisition and rehabilitation and resettlement Bill 2011 in parliament. We believe that displacement and land acquisition process throws serious impact on children from may aspects, but they have never been considered as a full stakeholder in this political-economic process. They are always displaced. We have prepared an approach paper and putting some non-negotiable principals, which must be represented in the new land acquisition or development planning law......

We would request you to give a view to it and give your voice to the children issues. You may also submit your recommendations to the ministry of rural development by 31st August 2011 on this draft, which is available on www.rural.nic.in

Thanks Sachin.Working with migrants, Mobile Creches has been at close quarters with the impact of movement on children, the deprivations that set in , the dislocation from schools, relationships, communities etc. Also , in looking at the disruption caused when slums are demolished in cities like Delhi. So very glad you have put this paper together. Children's issues have for too long been dealt with as separate issues requiring only  welfare responses from the State. " Swept off the map" by Jagori Group, is very good for account of impact from slum dislocations in Delhi.

Just request that you include the word/ concept of "development ' along with protection and safety - it gets pushed into a box that sounds like " formal education."

We do the child no service but creating these silos.
Thanks also, for always making the Hindi version available. WE can use it right away.
regards
Devika

Dear Sachin,

I cannot send a message in Hindi but if I can sign a document to support your work and your ideas then I would be very happy to do so.  When I worked in UP I saw the distress of  poor people whose access to what had been commonage was being reduced.  These families have nothing, absolutely nothing, to live on other than the reeds on commonage that they use to thatch their houses and the pittance they get for grazing the animals of slightly better off farmers.

On the other hand I was told that if you own a piece of land and someone parks their vehicle on it and starts selling something or other then they get possession rights.  That seems a bit crazy too.

Apart from being born in India and living there as a small child and then going back to work with children in KIRAN Village, I am no expert on Indian matters and would be reluctant to give an opinion.  But I follow the work that you do and will do anything I can to support you.  No one can visit India and fail to be affected in their heart by your beautiful people.

Warm regards,

Ann Dinan
