At this past meeting we had about five people show up including Dee
Eggers who's information on different university processes has been
invaluable.

We are going to right up a green grant to get powerstrips in the dorms
to reduce phantom energy loss.

We are going to host a dorm competition to increase energy
conservation.

We are going to right right up a petition for professors to "Teach in
the Sunlight" with lights off to conserve energy.

We are going to post renegade photos of MTR w/ text in places around
campus to raise awareness.

We are going to host the Southeastern Energy Conference a weekend to
get the message out around campus.

We are going to have a rally on campus, that same weekend anyone? To
raise awareness and initiate action.

Hey, sorry it took me a minute to get a chance to respond.

Other topics from my notes from this last meeting:

Going along with us hosting the Southeastern Energy Conference, we'd
like to discuss different ideas for some sort of campus action that
the 300 or so southeastern student energy leaders can help us out with
when they're here for the conference.

We discussed different ideas for a title for our conservation campaign
at UNCA. It was acknowledged that it is necessary for us to have an
awesome title and graphic for the campaign we'll be doing. One idea
was to call it the "Turn on Campaign" (admittedly more appealing than
the perhaps more appropriate "Turn Off Campaign.) With that title we
thought about having a graphic of a sideways head shown with a brain
in the middle (simplified, sort of like the Life Is Good figures) and
have short rays of light surrounding it. The idea is to show someone
being turned on consciously to environmental awareness. Below the head
a possible slogan may say: Save money. Save Energy. Save the planet.
and in small letter subtext: "(and save your own ass.)" (Thanks Dee
Egers, haha.) Any other thoughts on titles / graphics are welcome,
I'll be doing the graphic in photoshop once we decide on a final
concept.

So yea, if all of this is getting a bit overwhelming, here's a brief
bullet summary of what we have going on / coming up:

Children of Gaia is currently focusing on effecting widespread energy
conservation awareness on the UNCA campus.

Different actions toward this so far are:

- Getting as many professors as possible to agree to teach in the
sunlight, as in, teaching with the lights turned off.
- Working with Housing to begin a competitive energy conservation
contest between the different dorms.
- Distributing eyecatching stickers throughout UNCA next to light
switches viscerally linking energy consumption with mountaintop
removal.
- Coordinating a huge rally on campus geared toward raising
consciousness of energy conservation with other student groups in
participation. Music, art, speakers, food possibly, information.
