Hey Elizabeth, Brinkley, Stewart, and Ian:

First off, thanks to each of you for speaking with me about the awesome work you're doing in North Carolina and sharing your ideas about the possibilities and future direction of NC SEN. I can tell you that the Southern Energy Network is very excited and very determined to bring an NC organizer back onto our staff team.

I am really pleased to announce that SEN has submitted an application the Pespi Refresh Everything online competition (www.refresheverything.com). We have applied to compete for $50,000 in the month of July! If you aren't sure how the Pepsi Refresh competition works, SEN will win $50,000 if we get people to vote for us. If we have enough votes to remain in the top 10 of the $50,000 category, we get the money.

The application is incredibly broad, and the messaging solely focuses on "helping to support North Carolina young people to build a clean energy future for their communities." What's great about this money is that it's so broad that we didn't have to commit to a specific campaign or anything -- the money we get will fund a NC organizer at SEN to work with young people in your state on climate issues. That's about it for specifics, so you'll be able to work with the organizer to run whatever campaigns NC SEN decides to run after the August retreat. Awesome, right?

Also, we built in $1,500 into the budget for the North Carolina Student Energy Network. It's earmarked for a retreat, so money for bringing all the NC youth together for a weekend. If we win the grant, it can totally be used for the August retreat -- or another one over the 2011-2012 school year. There's also $2,000 for the SSREC, which as you know, will be hosted in Asheville this fall.

We need your help to win this grant. We are going to have to rely on NC SEN as well as our other allies across the state -- and leaders and allies from across the region and country -- to vote for us every single day throughout the month of July and make sure that we can hire an organizer, give NC SEN $1,500 for a retreat, and give $2,000 to the SSREC budget!

Can you help?

I'd love to hop on the phone with the state network or just the leadership to figure out how we can best work together to make sure we all get this fabulous grant.

I look forward to hearing from you all. Thanks for all the amazing work you do! Student organizer to student organizer, you are all really inspiring.

Best,
Kelsea
