War in Georgia and South Ossetia

Hello all its Ian

I hope you all have been having a good summer and makeing good
progress on your lives. I hope my friends in Kosovo and Rwanda are
alright and are safe and sound. I'm not sure if you are all aware but
in the past few days I have been watching new events unfold in the
balkin area and althought we always strive for peace war has broken
out in the froregin state of Georgia. Georgia was a part of the soviet
union until its collapse in 1991 and in Georgia these is a regian
called South Ossetia which recently tried to declare independence.
Georgia however has struck back with full military force and has tried
to reintergrate it back into Georgia. The rebels and the Georgian army
did at one point have a cease fire however georgia broke the cease
fire in less than an hour. In light of these events Russian (which has
vast ties in the region) has sent troops of there own to try to
stabilze the region and end the bloodshed. Sinc the beginning of the
fighting thouasands of south Ossetian refugees and Georgian refugees
have been displaced and over 2000 civilians have died in the conflict,
the capital of south Ossetia has been almost leved by Georgian troops.
Georgia has pulled its coailition troops out of the middle east in
order to stablize the region but in turn the country of Abkhazia has
sent in troops against Georgia. This conflict has just started but I
hope it ends soon, The U.S is not involved in the region as of now
(which I think is a good thing) and if you watch the news the media
has basically ignored this event and rather chooses to focus on the
spoof video of paris hilton running for president. I hope we as
americans can take this event and reflect on our media and what shoud
be its focus, should it inform us or entertain us.

All ou hope and prayers go out to the region, and althuoght this site
is mainly for art, we are still children of conflict and this is an
example of how some things in the world happen. hopefully the
compassion and light of the the world can heal these wounds and one
day fix the insecurities of our nations

I hope the new generation of children of conflict can learn from this
and try to understand why we choose to study these things and try to
change the way things work with art rather than guns.

Wow, I didn't even know that was happening. I've been watching some
news lately and I've been learning about the deaths of Bernie Mac and
Isaac Hayes. Oh, and I've been watching the Olympics of course. I'm
tired of not hearing about these things. This country needs to re
prioritize on what we consider news.

So, I think the media has gotten a little better, or maybe I've been
watching the wrong stations. I've been hearing a lot more about the
war. I also heard about the missile interceptors the U.S. gave to
Poland. Now Russia is threatening to retaliate and tensions are
growing larger between the U.S. and Russia. People speculate it could
be another Cold War. What now?

Yeah i first heard about it on the Olympics can you believe that?? So
far nothing on the local news just during the Olympics! I think that
is just unbelievable and i don't understand the reason why. Why is it
more important to here things about BIG FOOT being found in the North
Georgia mountains and deaths or car accidents of Movie Stars? And now
with the presidential elections coming up i just hope that this
country and every other country for that matter know what we are
doing.

Speaking of the Olympics i found it rather funny that our president
went to China and told them they need to be more like America and all
that crap. Is he asking for a fight or something? I hope everyone in
Georgia and across the world comes out of this alright

I don't know if you heard about the ex Serbian leader (Karadzic)who
grew out his hair and disguised himself as a guru and has been charged
with crimes against Humanity. It was all over BBC. Also about how bad
the Zimbabwen economy is, and how Preisdent Mugabe is banding Uncief;
about 95%
of the people are straving and dying, and Mugabe's excuse for his
deision, is that uncief is brainwashing people to go aganist him, I
think that's truly the classic dumb crap.
