Wendy,

I am horibly shy and I doubt I could speak to well, but I'd love to be part of a group to organize the research on the subject of children and nature connection. An hour and a half is a long time. I have the play again dvd? I guess we could show it with out paying a big fee?

I work for OUSD as a substitute, but have taught as a preschool teacher since 2000. I have experience with having a garden in urban preschools and I now volunteer at my son's school as the garden committee chair and grew a salad with 9 classes last year. I also have a MS in Education with a focus on Environmental Education. I'm sure I could at least help with this talk.

Thanks
Cassie Barr

the other lecture I am hosting is on urban gardening. What do you think should be covered? Any ideas for speakers. I definitely think school gardens should be covered in that session.

Hi,

We could cover different types of Environmental Education for urban children and handout resources?   Here are some I can think of: (Might be useful to the students at Merrit?)

Citizen Science with Cal Academy, School Gardens, Nature Restoration Projects, Community Gardens, Nature Play Areas, Place Based Education, Nature Clubs, How to Collaborate and Create Change?

I like the idea of people speaking for 15 min too. I can speak on school Gardens.... I'll try not to be too painful. ; )

Cassie,
We definately need to hand out resources. The handout should have books, videos, etc. on the children in nature.
The audience will be Merritt students, plus the general public.

I would like to have children in nature topics also covered in the FARMS AND URBAN GARDENS lecture on Tuesday, October 30, 7:30 - 9:00pm. Would you be available to talk for 15 minutes on school gardens?

Wendy
