Dear Friends
Greetings from Oxfam Pakistan Programme:
I am pleased to share the following proceedings, press clippings and Facebook link (involving video footage of the event recorded and telecasted by a number of leading tv channels) for your information. Oxfam in collaboration with WE CAN, Pakistan Coalition for Education and other partners is rigorously engaging in systematically connecting rights holders with duty bearers to hold them to account for not fulfilling quality education as their fundamental and constitutional right through its national level campaign "Its My Right Make It Right " under its Girls Education Programme in Pakistan. Also plz find attached a two pager on our education work to know more about us and such exciting but strategically significant events:

“Its my Right – Make it right” – heard loud at First Ever Children AssemblyChildren assembly comprising over 200 children from across Pakistan provided an opportunity to children (mostly girls) of remote & deprived areas to present not only issues that concern their education, but also gave them the confidence of addressing their issues with key policy recommendations. Explaining the rationale & philosophy of the event, Mr. Muhammad Aashir (Program Manager We Can) said “the concept of children assembly rotated around inculcating leadership qualities within children and generating awareness among children about their rights and duty as responsible citizens. Through a comprehensive process, these children represent the children clubs formed at the school level and were further groomed as junior leaders through provincial level conferences targeting South Punjab, KP, Sindh and Balochistan before participating in children assembly which will be held biannually as shadow assembly till 2015.”
The ceremony was attended by members of civil society organizations, parliamentarians, government official, media and others. Addressing the assembly Saddique-Ul-Farooq of PML-N said that his parties manifesto is open to debate and flexible to changes. Former Senator Akram Zaki addressing the assembly said “I congratulate Oxfam & We Can for introducing us to future parliamentarians. Never have I seen or heard of Children Assembly” adding humor to his speech he further said “It is against law, which sets 18 years as minimum age to vote and here we have children less than 16 years engaged in policy formulation”. He appreciated the efforts of children and highlighted their recommendations as pragmatic in addressing micro-issues that plague education system in Pakistan.
