Dear Colleagues of Coalitions on Education, Child Rights, Emergencies and SAFED PCE, CRM, NHN, and Education in Emergencies and SAFED members
I am pleased to share with you on behalf of ITA/SAFED and all the coalitions one is privileged to have been invited (accepted) to become a member of the Technical Advisory Group of the UN Secretary General’s Education Initiative. One hopes to do our country and region proud in this endeavor which can only be possible with your support and timely inputs.
The inaugural meeting is scheduled on May 22nd , 2012 in New York. (The minutes are in the attached file for your actions).
TORs and Key documents are enclosed for your perusal alongwith this note and will be available at : www.safedafed.org
This is the lead up to 2015 and beyond so it is an opportunity for Pakistan to be engaged strategically for inputs that are contextually relevant.
As members of a learning and an influential community, it would be an honor to receive any inputs that can be shared with the larger group during the next couple of months as voices from Pakistan for Sept. 2012 launch of the Education Initiative and run up to 2015 and beyond.
As mentioned forcefully by another colleague for Post MDGs and Post EFA Agenda The Train has Left the Station we need to act now to have a VOICE in global and national spaces.
However, it is good to know that some key areas have been addressed:
· Uphold the right to education in humanitarian emergencies has been mainstreamed in Priority I – viz., Put every Child In School – embedded in gender equality ( Proposal to double (4%) and then tripled (6%) of total Humanitarian aid to education)
· A shift towards “learning” /Quality is high on the agenda as Priority II Improve the Quality of Education and
· Priority III is Fostering Global Citizenship
Warm regards
Baela Raza Jamil
