Dear Friends,
Early marriages is a wide spread phenomenon in Pakistan. Though both boys and girls suffer in such cases, girls have to face a lot more problems than their male counterparts. It violates their basic rights including the right to marry a person of her own choice and right to education. On the other hand, early marriage brings medical complications as maternal mortality rate is highest among teenage mothers. Furthermore, a girl child married at such a tender age is unable to break the shackles of patriarchy and poverty. It affects her physical as well as economic well being.
Bedari and Action Aid Pakistan have joined hands to raise awareness about the consequences of early marriages and to stress the need for amending the relevant laws to prevent and discourage girls’ early marriages. In this regard, Bedari, Awaz CDS and Action Aid Pakistan cordially invite you to National Conference on Girls’ Early Marriages to be held in Islamabad Hotel (Melody Market/G-6 Markaz) at 10 AM on Tuesday March 20, 2012. Invitation Card and Agenda is attached herewith. The Conference would end by 2:30 PM. Your presence at the occasion would be highly valued.
Mr. Shakeel Awan from Pakistan Muslim League (N), and Senator Saeeda Iqbal from Pakistan People’s Party have confirmed their participation.
See you at the Conference.
