I was in the same hole for a while until I realized that I was trying to do trimming and splitting while in the New Event mode. Actually, you need to go to a New Project mode and there you can do all of that.

Thank you for your input, Alex. I already did have the clip selected (yellow border visible around the clip in the timeline within the project). The option at Modify > Split Clip is still greyed out. Any other suggestions?

I just want to make sure that you're clicking once in the clip that you want to split. That will position the white vertical playhead where the split will take place in your clip. Only once your playhead is in a position over your selected clip is when you can split a clip.

Back in the olden days circa 2010, I could edit or drop audio out if there was a burp, or noise for one second. All I can do now is continue to try and click on the audio after I separate it from the play track. The "superduper" clip trimmer shows me a black box with an arrow so that's useless. And I am able to split the clip but I can't zoom in close enough to just take out an "um." Help!

To reduce the volume over a short interval of audio expand the project timeline to its maximum (slider top right above project pane) then select a range that covers the sound you want to remove. Then just pull the volume (black line in the audio track) down. For details see: adjust audio over time using waveforms

I've tried this repeatedly. Sliding as large as it can be is still very small for what I need to do. I am literally trying to take out an "um." I have tried SHIFT click to see a diamond show up on both sides of the sound, but no matter what I do, I lower the audio on either side of the diamonds, but never the sound inside the diamonds. If I hover over the area a grey diamond appears, but holding down shift, space, control, option, command or the toggle doesn't seem to move it. What is the trick to capture the bit INSIDE those diamonds? Should they both be yellow? Or grey? or one grey one yellow? Or....???? Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much. This helped me figure it out. The diamonds are apparently the keyframes. When I held down on the option/click they would turn gold or stay grey. I think what was happening is I was trying to capture too small an area. I made the area little bigger then was able to capture the audio in the center. I always discovered that I first had to define the area (gold diamonds) then click again inside to make grey ones. The grey ones I could then move down. Worked ... though not very elegant I managed to eliminate the burp and had a split sec of silence... could actually fix it by copying a second and pasting under, but it's acceptable. This isn't broadcast quality .... gary jamesgang creative

Hi,
My problem is similar/the same: Hercules DJControl Mix, BT connection to iPad Pro. USB C adaptor to Hercules splitter cable, thence to Anker speaker, Anker headphones. No matter what I do to the cueing controls, the headphones only ever play the same as the speaker - even when I can see the headphone light switch back and forth as I slide the cross-fade. Do I need to buy a Traktor splitter, or is the problem actually linked to the USB C adapter? No sign online of a native USB C splitter either. Thanks! Greg

To split audio files means that a client doesnt want all of the script delivered in one single audio file. They may want a seperate file per paragraph or per sentence. This often happens for Elearning projects

As standard we recorded lav and boom mic and it is showing in premiere in one track. I went ahead edited the audio thinking I can just separate the lav from boom later. But I am slowly coming to realization that it can only be on the original clip in the project window. How screwed I am? Do I have to recut everything? There is just under 3h of interviews....

If you just want the left or right channel, try adding the Fill Left with Right or Fill Right with Left audio effect (under Audio Effects > Special). This will make the left or right channel play through both without having to mess with them manually. Might be a quick way to get what you are looking for...

I would send the post house everything. If you want to mute the lav track while editing just add the fill effect to the dialogue track in the track mixer. This will let you hear just the boom mic but will not change any of the clips.

I don't know what I did, but sometimes now it happens to me that in my audio tracks in timeline I find Output 1, Output 2, ... instead of Audio 1, Audio 2, .... and all the tracks are in mono, instead of stereo in a single line... really, I don't know how I did that, if I clicked something or what, but I can't switch back to the "default" setting....

It looks like your second screenshot shows a sequence created with one of the new Broadcast sequence presets. These presets are designed for broadcast editors who need to split their audio for delivery, creating sequences with mono tracks and a multichannel output (multicanale).

I have a few large (+30m) audio files from several field recordings I did, which I have imported into Logic and now need to split into smaller individual audio files, select the ones I need, trash the ones I don't. I went through the first large file, created markers where I want the new regions to start. I would like to split the large region into smaller ones using the markers, but I haven't found a way to automatically do this, so I went by manually, using keyboard shortcuts (go to next marker, split by playhead position, go to next marker, split by playhead position, go to next marker... you get what I mean, right?).

While this is not the worst possible scenario, I still have quite a few of those larger audio files to do the same thing and I was wondering if there's a way to automatically split a region by its markers. Is there one?

Bump, I would love to be able to split audio into regions via markers if there's a way.

Use case: I imported a song and split it into regions based on the sections of the song. If I receive a newer mix of the same song, or stems, can I split these new files via the markers I've already created?

EDIT: I tried Ctrl + Cmd + T but even with all the markers selected it only split one region via the first marker.

The markers do respond to numeric keypad key commands, there is a key command for next and previous marker. You could try these in combination with your Split command to quickly zip through the project a marker at a time.

Hi,
No, it is a short video to be honest, only the audio, in one of the track, some part I want to make it ended with echo, probably in the last 3 sec, echoing 2-3 times with the very part of the echo is fading out.

Open a new Shotcut project, put the audio clip that you want in the timeline then go to File > Open Other and pick Color. It will open a Color clip in the Source tab. The default length of a Color clip is 4 seconds. If you want to change it then set the length of the clip and press the O key to set the end point. Then bring the clip to the timeline and put it right up against the end of your audio. Then go to the Audio category that I showed you above and pick WAV not mp3. Mp3 is not appropriate for audio editing. Mp3 is a format you pick when you are finished not when you are editing and take audio clips in and out of programs because the quality will degrade after several exports. So since you are in the middle of editing pick WAV to export the audio. Then bring the exported audio back into your main Shotcut project then go to the part in the audio where the sound begins that you want to make echo till the end. Split the clip there and add the Delay filter. You may have to play around with the filter to get what you want.

You can also rearrange your audio clips after splitting or cutting them, and save them as one audio file. Just drag and drop the clips to be next to each other. You can also add other audio files in between to create a completely new track! Add background music, sound effects, voiceovers, and more.

I have a big mp3 file which comes from ripping a full CD. I would like to split it into one file per song. It will be great to find a software that can split the file automatically, detecting the start and the end of each song.

You can split your large mp3 into small pieces by using the "split" or "split new" function in audacity, then can move apart the portion of audio that you wish to mix down into a different file in order to export it.

In the next screenshot, I have made a new Stereo Track in order to put the split audio into a different track (for visual purposes only), then I moved the second part of the audio to that track and I have selected a portion of audio which can be exported into a new file.

If you yet have the CD, ripping audio with a file per song can be done by using "Sound Juicer", which will allow you to choose how to rip the media from the CD. This way you will have an mp3 file per song. And the task to mix down all the songs into a large file will be easily achieved by Audacity, just in case you need to do it so.
