Hi ChiC4L,

Anyone want to share ideas for Primo VE customizations?

I’m co-chair of a CARLI committee for Discovery / Primo VE.  In advance of an early summer webinar, we’re assembling a menu (cookbook?) of Primo customizations which improve user experience. These might be sweeping changes or low-hanging fruit.

The goal is to help us all learn from one another, and improve discovery UI/UX in general.  My committee would assemble the various solutions, and edit them into some open documentation to accompany the webinar.  Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Thanks very much,
-Allan

A few places to look for ideas if you haven't seen them:

Speaking for the ELUNA community, there is a lot of work going on everywhere and lots of needs for sharing customizations and also implementing existing solutions in the product in the best way, and complaining about the bad pieces of them!

There will also be a completely new framework powering Primo development in the coming years, but I don't know what it will be yet, not sure anyone does.

Oh! Forgot one thing. We set up "Try My Search In" based on what Ithaca College had done (https://github.com/rgilmour70/ic-primo-ve), and that's been great. Redoes the search in a few other places. I don't know how usage has been from an analytical perspective but it's definitely used.

Thanks Margaret!  These are great resources and suggestions.

I admit I sometimes forget about ELUNA.  I didn’t realize that CARLI is actually a member, lol.  You’re involved in the Great Lakes User Group, right?  Would joining GLUG be a good way to keep up on all things ELUNA?

Yeah, Primo could sure use a new customization framework!

Cheers, have a good week,
-Allan

I'm acutely involved with the ELUNA Primo community as I chair the working group currently. :-)

Joining the Primo-L mailing list, which is administered by ELUNA and the international user group is probably the best way to keep up on it. But I do hope we can arrange another GLUG meeting, either in person or virtually. That group will meet at the national conference in LA next week.

I think I saw someone recommend the "Useful Primo Customizations" session over the Primo-L mailing list awhile back and I've had it bookmarked to watch (though admittedly haven't yet): https://flvc.libguides.com/AlmaPrimoVE/2022FallConference
