Hi folks,

I know it's cold out.  But any interest in a meetup soon?  To warm up with a Moscow mule?

It seems like yesterday, but it's actually been since May that we last assembled, post-C4L national.  Well, this year C4L is in March.  Perhaps a happy hour now, and we can plan a more robust meetup after that?

Ideas, thoughts welcome.

Cheers,
-Allan

Maybe something in the South Loop or further? Just to give the U of C folks a break for a change. :)

I do like the idea of a mid-winter meetup.

I'm not terribly familiar with the watering holes in/near downtown, but can ask around.

I'm happy to travel that way! Or even all the way to Hyde Park if we want to really go nuts.

I'm afraid I dropped the ball on following up. Of course, we also had some actual cold weather.

So the weather is turning and C4L is next week. I might suggest something in the Mar 17-Apr 4 range, or possibly Apr 21-May 2.

If there's interest in a venture all the way down to Hyde Park, I could suggest the Woodlawn Tap, locally known as Jimmy's, 1172 E. 55th St. It's a neighborhood watering hole, been there since time immemorial, they offer what I would call cheap, decent bar food (e.g. the Reuben is pretty good), and you can have a conversation. Cash only.

Looks like could also be options in the South Loop area.

Jimmy's is great!

I'd be happy to take a few people in my car from the Lincoln Square area.

I second (third?) Jimmy's: never been there, but it sounds perfect.  Woohoo!

I went ahead and created a poll where people can provide their availability: https://rallly.co/invite/8KIz7zSyWH4h

(Man all the calendaring apps have gotten kind of terrible.)

My parents spent an entire year of the early 1970s at Jimmy's from the way their stories go. Thanks for creating the poll!

yay! Hope to be able to join.

The week of 3/31 will be interesting, I just got called for jury duty at the criminal court out on California. Hoping for a very quiet day of civil service.

If it's OK, I'll close the poll at the end of the work day today.  https://rallly.co/invite/8KIz7zSyWH4h

It looks like there is a toss up between three days.

Let’s choose Thursday March 27, because it has fewer “if necessary” yellow check marks, and because Christine can maybe give Gretchen a ride. :)  also it’s sooner and I could use a drink.

Cheers

Shall I add the details to the wiki? 4:30-7?

Thank you, Margaret! I do think it's helpful (especially for people new to Chicago) to know this is still a living group.

Sorry I can't make it tonight, everyone; I woke up feeling horrible. Hopefully Gretchen will see this before she heads down there and can make other arrangements.

Sorry we'll miss you, Christine. I hope you shake whatever it is, and we will see you next time.

I'm planning to be there by 4:30. I will likely be in the 2nd room with the window, or in the 3rd room. So if you don't see the group in the first room, walk past the bar and explore further.

Best,

-Tod

I should be able to give one person a ride back to the north side.

I let Christine know, but I coincidentally also had something come up and I won't be able to make it tonight. Enjoy the meetup!
