Hi Chicago Code4Lib,

Is anyone interested in meet-ups during Winter-Spring 2022?

We can just get together for beers maybe.  Chicago has lots of options these days.  Perhaps in January when the days are short, and everybody has had time to get their boosters.  Date suggestions?

In addition, this might be full-fledged conference later in the term.  May has worked well before.  Is anyone interested in hosting?

Cheers and thanks,
-Allan

Thanks for getting this idea started! I am absolutely up for a January beers thing. I'm sure there will still be some good heated patio situations that will be workable with coats if that's better for people.

Given that the national Code4Lib and several other conferences are taking place in May we might want to aim for slightly earlier (like April) or later (like August). I don't think I know for right now if hosting is possible here at Loyola, but as we get closer I will know.

Margaret

Yes, thanks for getting the ball rolling! Some sort of get together would be great, and I think Margaret has articulated parameters well.

Best,

-Tod

+1 April.  For me, Aug can sometimes be complex.

Hi folks,

I have setup a Doodle poll for a January meetup.  Most of the midweek days, after work.  Please chime in:
I haven't set a location, because I'm not sure.  I thought to check whether anyone has nominations for food establishments.  I figure something near downtown with beer.  Maybe near north side.  But I don't know whether there are establishments with outdoor seating?  Ideas?

Thanks, -Allan

Hi again,

Thanks for filling out the Doodle poll.  So far, the best days for a meetup are January 19th and 24th (tie).  So what do you say we go for Wednesday January 19th at 5–7pm (happy hour?)

Brewery options I'm kinda interested in.  I picked them because they're close to downtown and transit, they have food, and a good beer list.  Please let us know any other ideas or preferences.
This is in addition to a more formal conference-style meetup, probably in April.

Cheers,
-Allan

I'd love to see you all -- but realistically UIC is trying to keep campus density low til January 21 and with Delta, Omicron, and the low-efficacy of the flu vaccine -- going to have to take a pass and hope we'll be able to gather more safely in April.

Yep, if it's OK with everybody, let's take a rain check.

I'll revisit this soon once things improve.

Cheers,
