In case you haven't heard yet, one of the Dixie Chicks is about to make a public appearance. Those of you who live in the Austin, Texas area are in for a treat!



The Rock Hall officially designates the Austin City Limits studio as a rock and roll landmark

Alejandro Escovedo, Patty Griffin, Martie Maguire and more to spotlight ACL’s impact on American culture

CLEVELAND (September 22, 2009) - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will officially designate the Austin City Limits studio as a rock and roll landmark with an historic marker unveiling and educational programs at the KLRU-TV’s Studio 6A on Thursday, October 1.

Terry Stewart, president and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Terry Lickona, executive producer of Austin City Limits will unveil an historic marker to designate KLRU ‘s Studio 6A a rock and roll landmark. This event will be the 10th dedication in the Rock Hall’s Landmark Series, which memorializes places across the United States that are essential to the story of rock and roll.

Following the unveiling, Austin City Limits will tape its first hip hop show featuring renowned rapper Mos Def and the rising Somali-Canadian rapper/poet K’naan.

On Friday, October 2 beginning at 11 a.m. the Rock Hall and Austin City Limits will host two 75 minute educational discussion panels moderated by Dr. Lauren Onkey, vice president of education and public programs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, to spotlight the impact that ACL has on American culture. The first panel will feature seasoned members of ACL’s staff who will talk about the history and evolution of America’s best known music television series. This discussion will lay the groundwork for the second panel beginning at 1 p.m. which will feature artists Alejandro Escovedo, Patty Griffin and Martie Maguire talking about ACL’s impact on music in general . Jim Henke, vice president of exhibitions and curatorial affairs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will also join the panel to provide a historical perspective. Questions will be taken from the audience. The panels are free and open to the public and will take place in KLRU’s Studio 6A.

Both panels will be streamed live at austincitylimits.org.
