Burnaby Backyard Hen Lovers Unite!!!

Chicken people,

I will go before Burnaby Council again in March (tent March 7) to try to get bbq chicken-wing councilors to see the poultry light.

To review, I have been before council a few times now, in an attempt to convince the City to allow owners of single family homes with regular lots to raise a few chickens in their back yards, as is happening in many municipalities across North America. They were 'less than eager' about changing anti-chicken status quo and wanted to see how things panned out in Vancouver first. I said I wld revisit the issue in Spring 2011 which is almost upon us.

With a year or so of City of Vancouver now available i wish to show to Burnaby Council there is little to fear, and much to gain.

If you wld like to be a part of this, pls let me know and I wld be happen to have you join me in this delegation.

Hi Gordon,
I'll try to make it. I called Burnaby City Hall a few weeks ago to
ask about the reasons for not allowing chickens, and I felt like I was
talking to a tape recorder -- Arbitrary statements like, "Chickens
aren't allowed in Zone 1 because it was decided they are better suited
for other zones that allow agriculture."
I have come to believe that one of the simplest arguments is just to
have people consider how owning chickens is different from owning cats
and dogs (logistically). They all poop, make some noise, need proper
accommodation, and eventually die. These are all things that humans
are and have always been fully capable of dealing with, and the input
cost getting chickens (time and $$) of weeds out those that will be
irresponsible, perhaps more than with cats and dogs.

For your information, you can have up to 3 speakers per one delegation; however, I will need to have names, addresses & phone numbers by today 3 p.m.  You may bring more people to the Council meeting for support; however, they will not be allowed to speak.
