Dear friends across Canada,

Canada is blocking crucial UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen and secretly rolling back our efforts to fight climate change. A massive national outcry has stopped Harper before, the planet needs us now:
 |
Enough is enough. For years, Canada has been named the worst country in the world on climate change. And now, a leaked government proposal with plans for a roll back on our already weak carbon reduction targets, has made
Canada the laughing stock of the world at UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen.
We’ve been
slamming Harper on climate constantly --
we know he doesn’t care about Canadian values and traditions. But our country’s reputation and our planet’s future are on the line. It’s time to ramp up our efforts through a massive Canadian public outcry that he can’t ignore. Only then, can we
show Harper how isolated and out of touch he is.
Today, over 100 world leaders are beginning 60 hours of negotiations on a new climate deal. Canada will play its traditional role of the villain and try to block the talks…unless we take action. Between now and Friday, let’s build the biggest Canadian petition in history.
Together we can stand up to Harper and show him that Canada wants a real climate deal. Sign the petition now, then forward it to everyone you know:

Negotiations in Copenhagen have now been going on for 10 days. In that time,
Canada has been seeking to block progress at every turn. It’s why we are leading the league for the ‘fossil of the day award’, given by environmental groups to the countries who do the most to derail the process. All throughout the halls of the conference centre,
Canada is mocked and laughed at, and yesterday we were even targeted by pranksters, the Yes Men, while activists in London chopped down the flag at our Embassy.
Our credibility is being undermined, our international reputation tarnished.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. The PM has set a clear policy to expand the climate-deadly tar sands. If he reverses this policy and sets clear ways in which Canada can make real progress towards reducing its climate impact,
Canada can re-join the international community and salvage its reputation. As several Canadians in Copenhagen have said -- Over 100 world leaders are coming to Copenhagen to move forward on climate change. Prime Minster Harper has come here to move backwards.
Only
a strong Canadian outcry can reverse the PM’s position and save the Copenhagen climate talks.
Sign the petition now, then forward it to your friends:

Copenhagen is seeking the biggest mandate in history to stop the greatest threat humanity has ever faced. History will be made in the next few days.
How will our children remember this moment? Let's tell them we did all we could.
With hope,
Ricken, Laryn, Anne-Marie, Iain and the Avaaz Canada team
