What’s to know about raising chickens? Plenty!

Delta, BC - With all the talk about backyard chickens (good and bad),
Earthwise Society would like to see valuable information getting to
those who are curious about keeping chickens, so that they can make a
more powerful, informed decision about confidently keeping poultry –
or not.

Poultry to the People! Earthwise Farm will host a thorough
introduction to keeping poultry on Saturday, June 5. In this seminar,
attendees will learn from an expert about the characteristics of
different poultry varieties, how to give them the best care and
feeding, and what you need to know when deciding what, where, how, and
whether to keep poultry.

Clayton Botkin, BSc. (Applied Animal Biology), president of the Fraser
Valley Poultry Fancier’s Association, will deliver the four-hour
seminar. "The recent growth of interest in poultry in our region has
strong ties to our agricultural heritage, and with that comes the
proper management of domestic birds, no matter the species. Their
care should always be our top priority." Says Botkin. With over 15
years of experience keeping and caring for chickens, a wealth of
knowledge on poultry breeds, and enthusiasm to spare, the seminar is
sure to be informative, inspiring, and fun.

The seminar will run from 10am to 2pm, including a break at lunch,
during which registrants are welcome to tour the beautiful Earthwise
ecological demonstration garden, or enjoy a short picnic lunch.

Earthwise Society is located at 6400 3rd ave, South Delta
(Tsawwassen). It is accessible by transit, bicycle, and ample parking
is available. The Earthwise Garden is open to the public seven days a
week.
