Hey all...

Ray has asked me to take over the Chicago Ruby Book Club. As such, I
will be maintaining our group's relationships with book publishers as
well as managing distribution of books to members for review.

What does this mean for members? Free books! Well, almost free... we
do ask that everyone that takes a book, spend a few moments writing up
a short review and send it to bo...@chicagoruby.org so that we can
post it to our website. You can feel free to publish your review
elsewhere (Amazon, your own blog, etc.) as well, but we'd like to make
sure that every book we receive has at least one review on our site.

So, why am I contacting the group about this now? We've just added a
new publisher - Packt Publishing - and they've got a pretty healthy
list of books on everything from general Ruby stuff, to jQuery and
advanced Javascript titles, to PHP and Drupal. You can check out their
book list at: http://www.packtpub.com/.

I will be posting more urls and messages from publishers in this
thread on Google Groups periodically.

If anyone sees anything they're interested in reading and reviewing,
email the title and your name and contact info to
bo...@chicagoruby.org, and I'll make sure to get the book ordered and
delivered to you in a timely fashion.

Thanks!
Dave Giunta

Just got some books from Pearson Publishing and Addison Wesley in for
review:

Succeeding with Agile: http://www.succeedingwithagile.com/
Refactoring in Ruby: http://www.pearsonhighered.com/educator/product/Refactoring-in-Ruby/9780321545046.page
iPhone for Programmers: http://www.informit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=013705842X

If anyone is interested in any of these books, please send your name
and the book title to bo...@chicagoruby.org along with which meeting
(downtown or suburb) you normally attend. They will be distributed on
a first-come-first serve basis, so whoever's email I receive first
will get the book.

The books will be handed out at the next Chicago Ruby meeting that you
will be in attendance for.

Thanks!
Dave

Hey all... just wanted to say that I had screwed up setting up the
bo...@chicagoruby.org email group, and forgot to set it so that anyone
could email the group. If you tried to email bo...@chicagoruby.org and
it got sent back to you for some reason, please try again.

Also, as a reminder, for those of you who grabbed a book at last
night's meeting, please email bo...@chicagoruby.org with your contact
information and the title of the book you grabbed.

Thanks!
