I am wanting to create a VM for myself (and anyone else who would want
it) for doing RoR development and I was wondering what Linux distros
people are using out there for RoR?

What are some of things you like?

What are some of the things that you don't like?

Thanks,

Jim

I'm using a pre-made Amazon EC2 Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy from here: http://alestic.com/

I'm not 100% sure, I think people seem to think Ubuntu is the best
one. I've got a couple of slices running Debian, though, but a friend
of mine maintains them. Either way seems fine to me.

I got Ruby on Rails installed on a VM of the latest build of Ubuntu.
What IDEs are people using for this? I read a couple of articles I
found out there by Googling, but I am just curious what is working
well for my colleagues out there?

RubyMine (http://www.jetbrains.com/ruby/download/index.html#linux) got lots of attention at RailsConf this year. It runs on Linux, Mac, & Windows. It includes "real IDE" features like code completion and automated refactoring. I only downloaded it a few days ago so I can't give you a fair evaluation yet. However, a 30-day free trial is available so you'll have time to dive in and form your own opinion.
