Skaters, now maybe you'll know why I have been so slow getting this email out. There's a lot going on as the skating season begins to take off. Two sites to always check for upcoming events or even this week's events are www.teamrainbo.com and www.meetup.com/WindyCityInlineSkaters/. They are the source for almost all of these notices.

Sunday Skate Session

When:
Sunday, May 2, 2010 3:30 PM

Where:
Castaways @ North Ave. Beach
1603 N Lake Shore Dr
Chicago, IL 60610
773-281-1200

Another great season is upon us. We're going to make this a weekly event weather permitting. The event will be canceled by noon if the weather is not suitable.

Cones, Slalom, Tricks, Good Times. Come out, no matter what your skill level is. There will be other skaters who can teach tricks or basic skating skills. Even if you are a beginner. Give it a try.

We will meet just north of the Castaway Boat House. If we aren't there check a bit north up the path at the roller hockey rink.

"Roadrave with Skate Patrol", Friday, May 7, 2010 7:30pm

When

Friday, May 7, 2010 7:30 PM

Where

Daley Plaza
100 W Washington St
Chicago IL 60632

Roadraves are street skates organized by National Skate Patrol. They happen every 1st and 3rd Friday during Summer.
Route: 10 to 12 Miles through the city. Each route has a different theme that will be announced shortly before the event date.

What to bring:
A helmet (Skate Patrol absolutely requires them). Wrist guards and other pads are also recommended
Water (there will be none on the route)
Shoes (we will end at a bar that may not allow you in on skates)
Blinky lights if you have them.

Required skill level:
Know how to brake
Comfortable skating in traffic (we skate on the streets)
Able to step over curbs, railroad tracks, etc
Comfortable on hills (and there aren't really any in Chicago)

What else:
Again this is organized by Skate Patrol and not by this meetup group. We will stay together as a group and follow the fearless Skate Patrol leader....or something like that.

You skate at your own risk.
Skate Patrol requires all attendees to sign a waiver prior to taking off at Daley Plaza
Don't worry if you are not a fast skater. Speed will be determined by the slowest.

Hope to get large groups out on the streets this season!

American Cancer Society Walk and Roll

When:
Sunday, May 16th, 8:30AM

Location:
Columbus & Balbo
Chicago, IL 60601

Walk & Roll is a fundraising event to benefit the American Cancer Society. "We have all been affected by cancer in some way; and we all have the power to make a difference in the fight against the disease. That’s why thousands have been walking, skating or biking in the American Cancer Society Walk & Roll every year since 1972 to help achieve a future where cancer no longer threatens those we love."

This will be a 10 Mile skate route. This is not a fast skate, so very beginner friendly.

Naomi Grigg is coming to Chicago June 26/27. Naomi is without a doubt one of the best freestyle inline skaters in the world. Don't miss out to learn form the best. Last year we had a great workshop with her and tons of fun.

Please sign up soon at http://www.skatefreestyle.com/shop/workshops.asp

Only if enough skaters participate we can continue having professional workshops in Chicago. I promise, you will not regret it and walk (or skate) away with new tricks that you never thought you would be able to do!
Even if you have never tried slalom skating before!
