Let's skate the
Riverwalk!
If you think about it, Chicago has more
than twice as much river front as it does lake front !!! When was the last time
you skated it?
Sure you've all done
the shoreline of Lake Michigan (and done it and done it and done it), but how
much of Chicago's river front have you ever explored? Come meetup with us
Sunday, October 12th at 2:30 in front of the North Avenue Chess Boards (yes on
the lakefront) . From there, we'll head for the mouth of the Chicago River and
show you skatable river trails that you probably never knew existed. It's like
discovering a whole different environment within Chicago, urban yet oddly
idyllic.
This skate will be somewhat shorter (about 10 miles)
and mostly slower than a Road Rave, but every bit as much fun. We will have to
cross streets, walk across a couple short stretches of gravel, climb and descend
stairs, and hop up and down curbs etc. But that's about as demanding as it'll
get.
Advanced Beginners are welcome. We'll wait for slower
skaters.
We plan to end not far from where we began, at the
Galway Arms at 2442 N. Clark St. They usually let us in with skates and their
food is awesome.
Helmets are required.
Wrist guards and other protective gear are always recommended.
Hey, There's not much skating season left so make sure
you don't miss this opportunity to get your big wheels a turnin as we go rollin'
down the river.
